Afternoon of the Wolf

Return of the Orb

We returned the orb to Sim. Ru didn’t want to return it at first. She is so immature, and does not respect me as her older cousin. She spoke back to a clan elder and acted like such a child. She wanted to keep the orb even though my on interactions with the orb showed how dangerous it was. If only she and Gru listened to me. It is hard being the responsible one in the pack.

Anyway, the orb caused some concern with the elders, they even lost control of their magic! Luckily, they calmed down. I wish everyone would just show each other respect. Ru should have showed respect, but then Sim should have respected her!

Still, I would like to learn more of the Urgan’s secrets.

Sim made us take the orb back to the capital, and a warrior accompanied us. Barwhroen is his name. I suspect him to be one of the secret Urgan warriors!

Back at the capital, we met a sage Nargyl. His cooking was very good. He suggested that we bury the orb, as much as Ru carried on about wanting to study it. The Goddess showed me in a vision that she also wanted the orb buried. So we headed out into the wilderness and concealed. Hopefully, it will never be found. Gru looked happy, as he got to dig a big hole. However, I am concerned that he has been stealing my favourite bones again, even though I buried them where I was sure he would never find them.

Later, Nargyl said that Essen the vampire had appeared when he and Gru were burying the orb. Essen was cryptic as usual, and did not say anything useful or direct. However, she implied that she knew that the orb was there and that she knew of its power. Anyone as powerful as she implies to be could use the orb to do dangerous things. I still don’t trust her, but we don’t have much choice.

I asked Loreanna for a new prophecy, of which side to trust, and she said that Sim wants what is best for Wolf-Kind.

Now we are waiting for Sim to arrive back at at the capital. I hope he gives our pack a good mission to help Woflkind in the war against the dwarves.

Digging Up the Orb

We decided to go into Dwarven territory gain to get the orb’s research notes. Our mission was successful, even though we had to fight dwarves at the researcher’s original cottage. Soon the cottage was on fire, but Nargul and I ventured into the flames to rescue the precious books.

Then we returned with the book to Enra.

The orb is still being a problem. Simn asked us to collect it, but then we went to look for it and wasn’t there! Rue had hidden it from us, the foolish child. But Simn thought that the vampire Essen had hidden it instead.

He rounded up his strongest warrior, possibly Urgans, and went off in search of Essen. But as I kept telling him, Rue had taken it! Why wouldn’t he listen to me?

Of course, I turned out to be right. Following Grue, he lead us to where Rue was hiding. After confronting her, she admitting to stealing the orb! I had to compromise and persuade her to give the orb to Nargul. She could study it along with Nargul. I hope that Rue doesn’t destroy herself with her studies. I don’t know what I would tell Aunt.

Studying the Orb

I grow tired of this orb. Nargul, Evan and Rue have been studying it for some time. Grue has gone off to fight in the local games, while I keep an eye on things around Enra. I wish I could help with the study but alas I my priestessly duties must keep busy around the camp.

The book refers to Wiles, the vampire we slew with the orb. The orb, which is a necromantic artefact, appears to react negatively to negative energy and more positively to positive necromancy such as healing. I think that is how Nargul explained it me.

Nargul also asked about the portal that appeared when we fought the original vampire. It is connected to the god Oxdoro, lord of time and space, but I am not sure how it is connected to the orb.

Rue has decided to experiment upon the orb, even after I told her not to! Nargul is supervising, but from a distance. Rue tried to cast ‘heal’ around the orb, on Grue. Grue was not affected by the orb, which changed colour to green. Grue then tried to eat the orb, which he said tasted metallic. I suppose this is all part of the scholarly process..

I still think this terribly risky and we would be better off burying it. Evan is creating portals around the orb. I am watching safely from this hole with Nargul.

Oh! Nargul, who I thought was responsible, was doing further experiments on the orb. He cast a spell on the orb… and then a vampire appeared! The orb was gone. The vampire looked like the one we’d seen earlier, riding a vampire, we had peered through the orb before.

The vampire refused to give his name. He said the orb had been his prison.

What did Nargul do? I thought he was the responsible one around here and not Rue!

The vampire agreed to give us information, but wasn’t very helpful. He said that the vampire ‘Wiles’ was called Yavven. He refused to give us his name. He knew of Essen, but didn’t appear to be her friend. He said that he was opposed to us. I prayed to the goddess and she told me throw this vampire into the deepest hole I could find!

The vampire didn’t believe we’d killed Wiles/Yavven. He refused to tell us any of the vampires’ plans and thought we were stupid barbarians. Then he ran off.

Oh no! We have freed a vampire! Simn will be furious with us! He won’t believe that I’m responsible now! We tried to use the energies floating around us the air to rebuild the orb so we could trap the vampire but then we failed and there was a huge explosion!
